Direct Relief is a global non-profit operation that brings critically-needed medicine and medical supplies to millions of people who are affected by poverty, natural disasters and civil unrest. Through a network of established hospitals and clinics spread across all 50 states and roughly 70 countries, the nonprofit has distributed $1.5 billion of aid worldwide in the last five years with a staff of just 65.
After moving to SAP, Direct Relief was concerned when its implementation partner demonstrated a limited ability to host and manage the environment. To keep SAP running at optimal performance, Direct Relief partnered with us for hosting and application management. In contrast to Direct Relief, Advanced Energy, a global leader of power conversion and control technologies, had used SAP for most of its application portfolio – from back-office, human resources, and sales and services to operations manufacturing, business intelligence and global risk compliance, and employee self-service management. However, problems arose when they determined that they needed to support the next SAP software upgrade: their legacy infrastructure and Solaris operating system, in need of a refresh, would not be sufficient for the task.
Rather than make a capital investment in new hardware, Advanced Energy chose to expand its relationship with us (we already provided colocation and some SAP management services to the company) to ensure that we hosted and managed all of its SAP® environments, and provided disaster recovery capabilities.
