We are delighted to announce that Sungard Availability Services has been successful in being accepted onto ‘G-Cloud 8’, the latest version of the UK Government’s cloud framework. This allows us to showcase selected Sungard AS services through the Digital Marketplace, the route many public sector organisations choose to take when procuring cloud-based services.

Sungard AS was already able to offer services on G-Cloud 6 but had to resubmit services for approval as the G-Cloud framework is refreshed every six months with all but the two latest versions (7 and 8) expiring.

For the first time we have been authorised to offer Backup as a Service via the G-Cloud, while the following services, some of which were previously listed under different names, were successfully renewed:

The Digital Marketplace is an increasingly valuable shop window to reach decision-makers in central government departments, local authorities and other public sector bodies including the emergency services, education authorities and the NHS. In fact, according to government figures1, the current monthly spend on G-Cloud services is £36m with an annual run rate estimated at half a billion.

Sungard AS is already working with a number of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) keen to align themselves to our government-approved cloud platform and benefit from our consultancy support. As ISV customers like Civica, Allevate, FISH and Facewatch have found, our support dramatically accelerates time to market for their Software as a Service offerings, a critical factor to success.

To gain approval for listing on G-Cloud 8, the Sungard AS team had to provide satisfactory responses to questions around 14 Cloud Security Principles, as well as meeting various commercial and legal trading requirements.
