Sungard Availability Services Achieves Amazon Web Services Storage Competency Status

LONDON, UK.—Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS) has achieved Amazon Web Services (AWS) Storage Competency Partner status, demonstrating success in helping customers manage the recovery and backup of their cloud environments by leveraging Sungard AS’ 40 years of experience as a leader in Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS).

The AWS Storage Competency recognises AWS Partner Network (APN) Consulting and Technology Partners who have demonstrated technical proficiency and proven customer success for the respective use-cases. This includes backup and recovery operations to, from and within AWS; primary storage using IP file or block protocols and object storage; active and passive data archiving services to appropriate storage tiers; and Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery (BCDR) solutions.

“Sungard AS brings its industry-leading expertise and proven track record in disaster recovery, data protection and resiliency to deliver solutions on AWS,” said Josh Crowe, Chief Technology Officer at Sungard AS. “When customers work with us, they are getting fully managed, SLA-backed recovery, backup and production management solutions on AWS. Our attainment of AWS Storage Competency Partner status gives customers confidence that our solutions meet the superior, well-architected standards of a proven provider.”

As an AWS Storage Competency Partner, Sungard AS has validated that it has:

  • achieved a proven record of providing storage solutions that can scale to meet virtually any size of workload;
  • met security best practices, including proving that its solutions are aligned with AWS Security Best Practices and AWS Risk and Compliance;
  • demonstrated storage proficiency for BC/DR and backup, as well as primary storage;
  • built a framework that supports good governance and compliance requirements; and
  • made its products and solutions available in three or more AWS Regions.

Cennox, a global leader in banking and retail support services, applauded Sungard AS’ latest success with AWS. “Cennox turned to Sungard AS to help migrate our IT environment following a merger with 3SI Security Services’ European Division," said Kevin Broughton, Chief Information Officer, Cennox. "We were confident we could rely on Sungard AS to complete the full migration of our expanding IT infrastructure, knowing it was working closely with AWS to enable robust data backup and recovery.”

Sungard AS introduced another customer, Expert Revenue Systems (XRS), to Cloud Recovery – AWS to help it comply with Article 32 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which requires a documented SLA and recovery service with a four-hour Recovery Point Objective (RPO). Sungard AS Cloud Recovery – AWS includes an SLA-backed service for disaster recovery, assuring availability and recoverability of service. This positioned XRS for GDPR compliance ahead of schedule, while offering its own customers greater protection against possible data corruption.

AWS powers businesses from startups to global enterprises by providing scalable, flexible, and cost-effective solutions. To support the smooth integration and wide adoption of these solutions, AWS established the AWS Competency Program that helps customers identify Consulting and Technology APN partners with the industry experience and technical acumen to help them benefit from AWS’ offerings.

Last month, Sungard AS also achieved AWS Managed Service Provider (MSP) Partner status after meeting the criteria of a rigorous independent audit. Sungard AS also became a new member of the AWS Solution Space Partner program, featuring APN Partners that offer customer-ready solutions based on architectures validated by AWS.

Sungard AS’ end-to-end hybrid IT services include cloud management for production and recovery, colocation, managed hosting and security consulting across a global footprint. Learn more about Sungard AS’ managed cloud and recovery services on AWS.
