Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Centre Outsourcing and Hybrid Infrastructure Managed Services, North America

    July 9, 2018

One of the biggest challenges businesses face today is making informed decisions on how to transform their IT organisations from legacy data centres into the required hybrid IT infrastructures of tomorrow. To help them, the newest Gartner Magic Quadrant1 (MQ) assessed 20 IT vendors in the market, positioning them based on completeness of vision and ability to execute.

The Data Centre Outsourcing/Hybrid Infrastructure Managed Services (DCO/HIMS) Magic Quadrants for North America and Europe, issued June 18, evaluate service providers' ability to deliver data centre managed services (DCMSs). This includes DCO, HIMS, private cloud managed services, mainframe managed services, ERP hosting managed services, data centre transformation, cloud migration services, edge DCMSs, remote infrastructure management and IUS (Infrastructure Utility Services).

This year, Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS) is positioned as a Challenger in North America.

“Companies must implement faster, more agile and transformational approaches to their infrastructure sourcing strategies, and we’re here to help,” said Jim Paterson, Senior Vice President of Product Management, Sungard AS. “The market is ripe for assisting customers in their data centre modernisation initiatives, and as a leader in providing fully resilient, fully recoverable IT, Sungard AS is uniquely positioned to lead the charge.”

The MQ looks at two axes – Ability to Execute (vertical axis), and Completeness of Vision (horizontal axis). Each of these is then weighted and scored on various criteria set by Gartner (seven main criteria for ability to execute, and eight main criteria for completeness of vision).

The market and providers' analyses are also supported by thousands of data points and evidence on providers' capabilities, more than 340 references, and customers' evaluations during inquiries performed by Gartner analysts from June 2017 to April 2018.

“We believe being named a Challenger increases Sungard AS’ profile in the market,” Paterson added, indicating that the company is making further investments in core offerings. This includes Managed Cloud and Cloud Recovery capabilities delivered on AWS or the Sungard AS Cloud platform, as well as Data Transformation and Modernisation Consulting Services to bring Sungard AS' knowledge and resiliency to even more customers seeking to move to the cloud.

If the opportunity to help businesses transform IT for resilient business is a challenge, then Sungard AS accepts the mission – just as it has been doing every day for more than 40 years.
