Why the office is not dead

The office is dead — long live working from home! Or so many people would have you believe. At Sungard Availability Services we too have heard the questions around the Workplace Recovery services we’ve been providing for over 40 years; but we’ve also heard this before—with assertions that the advent of cloud computing would kill off specialist technology providers as everyone went to public cloud.

Unsurprisingly, that’s not how it worked out and, as with most rumors, the death of the office environment has also been greatly exaggerated. We certainly won’t pretend that the workforce dynamic will go back to the way it was, but the key traits of a proven, resilient workforce don’t change: Agility, Adaptability and Flexibility. Simply returning to the previous state (before the disruption) is rarely a good idea, and everyone should always learn and improve following a disruption, especially one with the impacts of the current Coronavirus pandemic.
