WAYNE, PA—December 10, 2018—Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS), a leading provider of information availability through managed IT, cloud and recovery services, announces Joseph George, Vice President of Product Management for Global Recovery Services, has received a 2019 “Ones to Watch” Award from CIO, an IDG company. He will accept his award at the AGENDA19 Conference in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on March 20, 2019.
The CIO Ones to Watch Awards spotlight rising technology leaders who have what it takes to become strategic, C-level business technology executives. Candidates have a track record of success, an essential blend of communication and collaboration skills and a keen understanding of business goals.
“As CIOs become more involved in corporatewide decisions and objectives, reliance on qualified and talented people within their IT organizations to manage key projects is critical to overall business success,” notes Tim Scannell, Director of Strategic Content at the CIO Executive Council. “The Ones to Watch Awards are an effective way to acknowledge the success of those individuals who have the right mix of technology and management skills to maintain continuity, drive innovation and lead solutions teams. The awards also affirm, on a global stage, that recipients have the capabilities that position them as future leaders in the industry.”
As the Vice President of Product Management for Global Recovery Services at Sungard AS, Joseph drives the vision, strategy and roadmap execution of the company’s recovery portfolio, as he and his team interface with Sungard AS’ customers and the market to define product strategy and direction.
Joseph has played a key role in the company’s transformation from a major player in the traditional shared inventory recovery model to the leading provider for advanced, enterprise-scale Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS). Joseph is responsible for the product management team that has led multiple cross-functional initiatives, including launching next-generation cloud recovery, modernizing backup services and expanding workplace recovery services.
While at Sungard AS, Joseph’s team has led development of backup and recovery capabilities that leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS), providing customers with services that benefit from the flexibility and economics of the public cloud. This includes launching the industry’s first service level agreement (SLA)-backed recovery service to AWS, which enables recovery to both Sungard AS cloud targets and AWS cloud targets, as well as between AWS regions. Sungard AS was also included as the first DR service provider solution in the AWS Solution Space.
Most recently, Joseph’s team launched a fully managed backup service to AWS for enterprise customers, which allows them to quickly restore data locally. This also offers the benefit of offsite data and longer-term retention on AWS.
Joseph’s efforts have been crucial in driving Sungard AS’ investments around hybrid backup and recovery services. These solutions are critical for the resiliency of large enterprises, especially as they evolve and embrace the public cloud.
Joseph’s award illustrates an understanding of technology, as well as his business experience. Joseph holds four U.S. patents, has been extensively quoted in the media, and has published multiple articles in the area of disaster recovery and resiliency.
“I’m honored and humbled to even be considered for this award, but it wouldn’t be possible without the support and contribution of my incredible team and colleagues at Sungard AS,” said Joseph. “Thanks to their tireless efforts, we’ve been able to take advantage of an evolving market and position ourselves as a leader in cloud-based recovery. I would also like to thank the leadership at Sungard AS for providing an environment that enables innovation and customer focus.”
